CAN SPRING BE FAR BEHIND?
For no particular reason, as is often the case with our intrepid pair, Nikki & Pete decided to jump in the car and travel to the mysterious village of St. Ippolyts (St Ippolitts, St Ipollytts, St Ippolitts, however you wish to spell it!)

Nikki wanted to visit the old church there. (See picture on the left).
BUT! When they got there, they were greeted by a wonderful sight - DRIFTS OF SNOWDROPS EVERY WHERE!
Pete identified some as GALANTHUS NIVALIS, the common snowdrop, GALANTHUS NIVALIS FLORE PLENA ( the double common snowdrop) and GALANTHUS ELWESSII (the giant snowdrop)
But to Nikki, they were simply beautiful little snowdops. (see pictures below)

Well, you know what they say, - when winter comes, can spring be far behind? Well, these little flowers seemed to be nature's heralds that spring is on it's way...
NOW OUR ADVENTURERS HAVE DECIDED TO PAY A VISIT TO BENINGTON LORDSHIP, WHICH IS FAMOUS FOR IT'S SNOWDROPS OF MANY, MANY DIFFERENT SPECIES AND VARIETIES.
WATCH OUT FOR THAT ONE!

NIKKI & PETE'S ABSURD ADVENTURES!
In which our intrepid pair get approving looks from passengers as they travel on the tube in their gladrags, get ripped off by a taxi driver and are given a free ride by a bus driver, whilst Nikki gets disapproving glances for a wearing her FAKE fur coat, until they finally arrive at THE WORLD OF THE ABSURD premier screening, where they were treated to a typical English Afternoon tea, with tea, sandwiches, cakes and (erhum!) ... CHAMPAGNE...
But let us begin at the beginning shall we?
A few days before, on Wednesday 23rd November, Pete had been called up to The Spotlight Studios in Leicester Square, by Jayde of Beaubelle Models, to audition for a new Cadbury's ad. Unfortunately, the road leading to Leicester Place, where the studios are, was blocked off for building works. In the diversion, Pete went past The Empire Cinema, where the premiere of PUSS IN BOOTS was about to start! There were ushers to stop people going through the red carpet area, but, for some strange reason,
they let Pete through, and he nodded to Antonio Banderas (the voice of Puss In Boots - pictured on the left), as he was being interviewed!
The people waiting behind the rope barrier must have thought Pete was some sort of celebrity, as they were craning their necks to get a look at him!
Oddly, on his way to and from Leicester Square, people kept waving at him on the escalators and on the tube. Naturally, Pete waved back!

Anyway, - back to The Absurds screening at The Caledonian Hall in Greenwich....
Again, on their way there and back, people kept looking at them as they travelled on the train from Stevenage to Kings Cross, on the tube to Bank, and on the DLR to Cutty Sark.
Maybe it was because they were dressed to the nines! Some, though, (lady's mostly), seemed to sneer at Nikki in her fake fur coat. Maybe they thought it was real! Well, - you know Pete & Nikki. - They wouldn't harm any animals for their own vanity!
Once they arrived at The Cutty Sark DLR station, Pete phoned for a local taxi, and he was told to walk around the corner to the taxi rank, where his car would be waiting, - and so it was.
The trouble being that, after taking them past Trafalgar Road, where The Caledonian Hall is situated, the driver admitted he didn't have a clue as to where the venue was!
Pete & Nikki had to get out and find it for themselves, - but the driver still
charged them £5!
Eventually, they found the venue, and were greeted firstly with the poster you see at the top left of this sentence, quickly followed by the Absurds mastermind himself, Jack Walters, (seen on the right with Pete) armed with two full glasses of Champagne for our intrepid couple.
Pur adventurers went on to meet other members of the cast, including Michael Coleman, with whom Pete had worked with on a scene in 'The World of The Absurd', and then proceeded to help themselves to tea, sandwiches and cakes, whilst they perused through the programme, which also included their own personal DVD of the pilot. They then settled down to watch the TV pilot...

Above we see Pete and Nikki reading the official programme/brochure

and above here, we see Jack Walters, (doing his James Bond impression!) with Nikki, and Michael Coleman with Pete, being themselves!
The pilot itself is a very humorous, refreshing idea for a brand new TV series, making a welcome change from all those reality programmes. Indeed, occasionally, The Absurds do their OWN take on this tired old format...

Above: Pete's part in this superb production and the end credits with Michael Coleman.
Oh yes, - on the way back, our intrepid pair boarded a bus to the DLR station, - and the driver didn't charge them! So there are some nice people in London!

PETE & NIKKI - TWITCHERS!
Pete & Nikki have just finished filming as birders (or 'Twitchers' in the new series of 'Midsomer Murders'. They play bird watchers who find that 'the blue-crested hoopoe' has been spotted in the Midsomer area, and off they go to find it.
Nikki has to pull away in her car, with Pete in it, in a 'racing start', with tyres
screaming, to get there in time, after the leader of the Bird Club gives them the location. The episone is titled 'rare Bird' so watch out for it.
Our intrepid pair always enjoy doing 'Midsomer', as the crew and cast are all so great. This time, the crew were messing about dressing up in pink, - as you can see from the photo...

PETE & NIKKI'S HIGHLAND ADVENTURES 2011
It was a nostalgia trip for Pete, going back to the Scottish Highlands, where Pete lived from the age of 2 ‘til 4 in married quarters at Fort George, Ardersier and then from the age of 5 to 7 in Oldmills Cottage in Elgin. (In the meantime, he experienced The Blitz in Walthamstow, but more about that another time!)
This is what Nikki had planned for Pete’s 74th birthday, - a walk down memory lane along the banks of Loch Ness, to Nairn and Lossiemouth by the sea. They even met Pete’s eldest daughter Vivien and her husband Del on Pete’s birthday, 30th June, at Invermoriston, as they were
camping near Fort William, whilst our adventurers were booked in at Shennachie, a B&B outside Nairn.
(See the view from their window on the right).
This was about half-way between the two points.
But of course, - you know our intrepid pair, a holiday is never that straightforward!
As usual, their holiday turned out to be a series of adventures, and a working holiday, where they gathered and recorded information about the threats facing the Highland way of life, (like logging for profit, and the encroachment of Giant Hogweed and Japanese Knotweed) – and some inspiring environmental ideas in the form of green roofs, solar panels, wind turbines and
even houses made of straw bales, - and a Hobbit village at The Findhorn Foundation!
Their landlady, Joyce Cruikshank let our couple into her kitchen to watch a red squirrel through the window, feeding. Red squirrels are now rare in the UK, - which is yet another reason to protect their natural habitat – the woodlands.
