RHETT DAVIS - SPIRITS
Reviewed by PETE & NIKKI
Yet another classic offering from our old American pal RHETT DAVIS.
SPIRITS is a remix of a song we have heard before, and even the first time around we were hooked.
The new mix gives an already beautiful song a certain 'edge' that lifts it up in, well, - spirit!
Seriously though, this really is a spiritual song, which makes you shiver with emotion and literally brings a tear to your eye.
As we have said before, Rhett is the type of songwriter that composes in a style that really sets poetry and stories to music, which is exactly what we love...
Another winner for Rhett!
Please give it a listen yourselves by going to our SOUND ON! Page.

DANNY CONRAN
- knight of original music!
By Pete & Nikki
Our readers may remember the story on our Science & Technology Page about the young man working at Maplins, Stevenage, who came to our aid regarding the Camcorder we had bought from the store.
Well, call it serendipity if you will, but it turned out that the young man, DANNY CONRAN (see picture on the left), is not simply a very helpful shop assistant, but he is also a talented musician to boot!
whilst searching for a photo of him to accompany our feature, we came across his site at soundcloud.com and discovered his hidden talent!
Danny, who uses the professional name of dee-tech, write on his website:
This is Dee-Tech. My name is Danny Conran, producing music started at a young age but i have been seriously composing/producing since the beginning of 2009.I produce music that i enjoy listening to and that puts me in a certain mood. If others like and feel the music that i make then that is a added bonus. I hope you enjoy listening to my music and i hope that it can be related to. Im not so much a song writer my self but i do try to create my own lyrics. i never stop learning about my abilities or the programs that i use, and this is what pushes me forward.Well, we listened to some of his tracks, Walk with me, Journey (with Mike Ellis on vocals), The Funky Knight (ironically, as we regarded him as a maplins Knight coming to our rescue!) Fallen and Run & Jump, and found them funky, enjoyable, and highly original.
WE RECKON DANNY, UNDER THE NAME OF DEE-TECH, WILL GO FAR GIVEN THE RIGHT BREAKS...Listen to Danny Conran's music at: http://soundcloud.com/dee-tech

Well, if I was ever in any doubt about the future of British Rock Music, - this five-piece Punk/Alternative/Rock band from Buckinghamshire/Northamptonshire, KAPTAINS, gives me great hope...I listened to their latest track, GALLEONS, with renewed faith, as the musicianship, vocalisations and harmonies reminded me not of the past glories of Rock Music, - but that there is indeed a great future for this genre. Everything is here, - great lyric, (which in my humble opinion is lacking in much of today's music) - and although the look of these guys makes me feel even older than my 74 years (it's the same with coppers!) - I was amazed at their pure professionalism and musicianship.
IF ANY BAND DESERVES TO GO ALL THE WAY, IT IS THESE GUYS - SO ALL YOU PROMOTERS OUT THERE (ARE YOU LISTENING BOB MARDON?) - AND ALL YOU RECORD PRODUCERS - GET YOUR FINGERS OUT AND SIGN THIS BAND UP.I am awaiting an mp3 from these guys, so that I can put it on our 'SoundOn!' page, - you will be able to listen, - but not download. In the meantime however, listen to it on their website:* * * * * * *
BLOOM - PUZZLES & PROGRESS
By PETE PERRY
We haven't reviewed Bloom for some time, so we thought we would have a listen to their new offering, "PUZZLES & PROGRESS" from their new album of the same name.
Well now, - I didn't know what I was missing! This track is suberb, - in my humble opinion, the best they have done. They just seem to go from strength to strength, and that's not just my opinion, - NME (Jokingly dubbed by our old Switchboard magazine of The Eighties THE N.M.E!) rated them as one of the top live bands in the UK. I sneakingly listened to some of the other tracks on this album too, and they are all brilliant.
But why take the word of my and The NME? - Listen to them yourself by

ERIC ROBBILARD - FUSION
By Pete Perry
Here's one I had sent to me by my daughter Deborah, who's
son (my grandson) is learning to play the guitar.
Eric is a highly competent French guitarist, but then so he should be: He TEACHES guitar!
Having said that, the old saying 'Those who can do, - those who can't teach' doesn't apply here!
Not only is Eric competent, - he also has a lot of soul in his music, - something that has to come from the heart (and soul!) This is something you cannot teach!
