Nikki has Her Say

WHERE HAVE ALL THE SEATS GONE?
I was rather annoyed and upset the other day when Pete & I went food shopping at Sainsburys at Coreys Mill Stevenage. It was a very hot day, and as Pete's wife and main carer, I wanted my husband to take a rest so that he could get his breath back.
I then noticed that there was only one bench seat, which was occupied by an elderly couple. SO WHAT HAS HAPPENED THE REST OF THE BENCHES FOR OTHERS TO REST ON?
There are plenty of people who suffer badly in hot weather, especially the elderly and disabled. This isn't just a problem at Sainsburys either. Tesco, Asda, Aldi, The Co-op, they are all the same - not enough seats inside or outside the stores for people to rest.
THESE STORES GET PLENTY OF MONEY FROM THEIR CUSTOMERS, BUT WHEN IT COMES TO CUSTOMER COMFORT, IT IS NON-EXISTENT!
I was NOT impressed!
We spend our money at these stores, so the least they could do is look after their customers comfort needs!
Love & Peace

MORE SELFISH PARKING EXPOSED
By Pete Perry
Once again, Nikki and I took a walk down the shops (The way the price of petrol is going, we might ALL have to walk) to see if
the custom of parking on the pavement has improved, since we did our last piece on this thoughtless practice (see bottom of this page).
Well, - GUESS WHAT? Nothing has changed, - maybe apart from getting worse!
Have a look at these pictures, and tell me - how you suppose a blind person, or a disabled person in a
wheel chair is supposed to negotiate these badly-parked vehicles?
As you can see from the picture on the right, this lorry was parked completely up on the pavement, and Nikki had to walk blindly into the road to pass. Imagine if she had been a wheelchair user?
THIS IS SUPPOSED TO BE ILLEGAL, SO WHERE ARE THE POLICE?.

Recently, regular reader SHIRLEY KELLY read about the way Nikki and Pete were treated by the AA. This prompted her to tell us this story...
WHATEVER HAPPENED TO DECENT TREATMENT AND RESPECT?
By Shirley Kelly
.
It's disgusting the way we are treated in this day and age.

I was Ill with what I thought was just common flu.
Two days before Christmas I was having problems breathing so I rang my daughter, who thought it best to ring for an Ambulance. The paramedic arrived, asking general questions, did my obs said they seemed ok but as the ambulance had just arrived he told them that I should be taken to Hospital as i had Asthma and diabetes.
The ambulance men both said it's unlikely any hospital will want to take me in but The paramedic advised it was best to take me. He asked one of the ambulancemen if they had brought a chair. He said 'No, its in the ambulance'. he told him to get it and then he left leaving them to transport me.
They didn't bring the chair they made me walk to the lift and out to the ambulance in the snow! I was wearing a thin night gown, slippers and a dressing gown!
I felt so ill i could barely walk and thought i was going to collapse. However I got to the ambulance and they put a paper mask on my face because that was procedure with flu.
They started playing the CD 'Driving home for Christmas'!
I was freezing. No blanket was offered. In fact, I was barely spoken to in the ambulance.
When we arrived at the hospital, they took me inside.
After a few minutes a nurse came and informed them that I should have been kept in the ambulance until they had a room ready for me'
As the nurse walked away, one of the ambulance men said to the other 'Tut! They don't care if we catch it though do they?' Then he proceeded to moan. He didn't want to catch it - his wife would go mad! The other one said 'Well I dont want to go home - my wife already has it!'
then he said, pointing at me, 'Didn't she enjoy the Christmas song?'
His colleague said 'No I dont think she enjoyed it!'
Normally I have a good sense of humour, but I felt so ill I couldn't crack a smile! This is 2 days before Xmas and I was probably being admitted into hospital and they were playing and singing 'Driving home for Chrisrtmas'!
I was taken to a side room by the ambulance man, and as I got up from the chair to get onto the bed, my legs buckled.
He said to me irritably, 'Oh! Dont go down -I cant pick you up'! I managed to cvatch my balance and get on the bed'
About 10 minutes later, I heard him ask a nurse 'Is she staying, or are we taking her back?'
The nurse replied 'No we think it pneumonia'.
It turned out to be swine flu and pneumonia.
I felt really badly treated, almost with contempt.
(1) If they dont want to catch things like swine flu, which they had an idea that I had, - then dont be an ambulance man!
(2) If the other Ambulance man's wife had swine flu, why was he working?
I know i should have reported this behavior, but after being so ill in hospital and coming so close to dying because i was so seriously ill (I was in there for 10 days by the time i got home from hospital), i was just glad to be alive, home, and well again!
I am just now only just coming to the end of my treatment. it's taken this long, so no I didn't report them.
*Yes people treat others so badly and, regarding Pete & Nikki's video, the AA never considered Pete's age and his angina.
Its terrible that we are treated so badly in this day and age.

NOTE FROM PETE:
WICH BANKERS (iNTERPRET THAT HOW YOU WILL!)

Our spies tell us that Cameron's idea of handing over financial control of the NHS to GPs comes with it the promises of 'Bank Style' big bonuses for good performance, so wait for money-grabbing doctors to suddenly start supporting the reforms!

TIME TO CALL A HALT TO THIS BARBARIC CUSTOM

By PETE & NIKKI PERRY
Every year, thousands of wild animals, domestic pets and elderly people get scared half to death by the sound and sights of fireworks going off.
Some even die as a result of heart failure, so isn't it
about time we put an end to this barbaric practice?
Apart from this unneccesary suffering, - think what a great time it is for terrorists! Yes, - November is the only time of year where, oddly enough, shops are legally entitled to sell explosives to the general public, - and do you really think anyone would notice the sound of a terrorist bomb going off in the middle of the loud bangs that surround us every Guy Fawkes night?

PLEASE LET US KNOW WHAT YOU THINK BY EMAILING PETE AT pete@widgeripoo.net

ON THE TRAIL OF THE GIANT HOGWEED

Way back on 22nd March 1975, Pete Perry highlighted the dangers of the Giant Hogweed, because it had appeared on waste land in Stevenage, Hertfordshire.
Now the plant, known to botanists as Heracleum Giganteum, is again growing in the same area of Stevenage, by Elder way, and close to the retail park, and nobody is doing a thing about it.
Giant Hogweed, when touched, can cause severe blistering of the skin, and the rash can last for anything up to seven years. In some cases, where people are particularly sensitive to such things, it can cause toxic shock syndrome, which could, in the worse-case scenario, cause death.
Pete has been keeping an eye on this plant locally every decade since 1975, and has reported it in the local newspapers and local television every decade since then, - and yet STILL Stevenage Borough Council have not got on top of the situation. In this, the latest outbreak, the council know who own the land, but will not make their knowledge public. THE FACT IS, THAT, ALTHOUGH THE GIANT HOGWEED IS GROWING ON PRIVATE LAND, THAT LAND IS NOT FENCED OFF, AND PEOPLE REGULARLY USE IT FOR WALKING DOGS, AND CHILDREN OFTEN PLAY IN THE AREA, WHICH IS CLOSE TO THE RETAIL PARK.
HAS SOMEONE GOT TO GET SERIOUSLY ILL BEFORE THE COUNCIL ACT?

Below are a couple of Pete's ironic cartoons, published in The Stevenage Comet newspaper
in the 1980s...

Health and Safety is a great concern to members of The MOTF, and it is up to all of us to treat others with the respect we expect to receive from others.
Therefore, here we will be highlighting a few hazards we should all avoid...
Pete & Nikki
THINK OF OTHERS FOR SAFETY
When you park your vehicle, do you think of the safety and convenience of others, or do you just think of yourself?
Notice that the driver of the Coca-Cola delivery truck on the left is parked in a DISABLED PARKING AREA! We doubt that a delivery driver is disabled!
Now take a close look at the photos on the right, taken randomly in our neighbourhood. Notice anything wrong?
Well, apart from the cars being parked illegally, they are a hazard to pedestrians, who would have to walk into the road, causing a hazard to themselves and other vehicles.
NOW IMAGINE WHAT A TERRIBLE AND CONFUSING OBSTACLE ANY OF THESE VEHICLES WOULD PRESENT TO A BLIND PERSON!
A sightless person cannot see the obstacle in front, and even if they manage to detect the vehicle with their white stick, they would have steer around the offending object and walk into the road to pass the vehicle, where they would not be able to see any oncoming traffic.
THESE VEHICLES ARE POTENTIAL DEATH TRAPS!
Please think of others before you park your car...
Remember the disabled too...
Deborah Johnston (Centre in the picture above) has asked us to point out that people with other disabilities find badly-parked vehicles hazardous too.
For example, a person in a wheelchair would also have to move out into the road to pass a badly parked vehicle, as would a person in a mobility scooter, walking frame or crutches, - so please show some consideration..
ARE YOU A SELFISH, THOUGHTLESS DRIVER?
The vehicle below is illegally parked across the pavement, as the homeowners have two cars, which will not fit into their driveway without blocking the pavement.

Now, beloe, the same illegally parked car, but a van has parked behind it, making the situation doubly hazardous.

Not only is the vehicle below blocking the pavement, it is also parked right on a corner, blocking the view of vehicles approaching the bend.
