THE GENERATION GAME - WHO'S THE BEST?

We are the best because..

We are old farts and have forgotten more than anyone will ever know or appreciate.

We were there when rock music was born and the music that everyone loves now was just beginning

We were there when the Beatles were the greatest pop group in the world and Elvis Presley was King

We were there when the only things that were important was family, friendship and love.

Tony #1

The Pixie Postmaster of The Magic Oak Tree Family.

PETE'S COMMENT: Any contenders?

* * * * * * *

Yes, BUT he's forgetting that there ARE many younger people, like myself, who DO appreciate and love good times too.

They are not forgotten! It's not just OLD people that remember the good times that he refers to.

Rather disrespectful to the younger generation, me thinks!

NIKKI XX

PETE'S COMMENT: Well, I think my mate and my wife are both correct! How? Well, look no further than the fact that Nikki & I work together as a couple and as a team, proving that age and youth work well together, but most importantly, Nikki is, as my wonderful wife, my family, and Tony is part of the Wider Family. Enough said?

MORE SNOWMAN THOUGHTS...

R.I.P

Regarding the snowman Pete,

I think he's dead, oh dear
RIP

Ray Cordell, Letchworth. UK

PETE'S COMMENT: S'no good, - it looks like Frosty has defrosted!

* * * * * * *

EEEEEEEEEEE Pete you should know how to spell my name by now!

Anyway we should start a campaign S.O.S Save Our Snowmen.
Some councils are sending out the S.A.S. Snowmen Annihilation Squads. to decapitate and disembowel snowmen so that they thaw quicker this must be doing damage to young children, who spend ages making them.
They could be scarred for life!
Please write to your M.P. It appears the councils that started this barbaric practice have hearts of ice themselves and are Conservative!
FRANK SWAINE, Stevenage Herts UK
PETE'S COMMENT: Oh dear! How barbaric Frank!
I'd like to put the powers-that-be in a greenhouse to melt their hearts.
I suppose you might call it CONSERVE A TORY!
Anyway, to support your suspicions, we caught this sad snowman (pictured right) trying to retrieve his head... AAAAHHHH!!!
By the way - sorry about the spelling of your name.(see WRONG spelling further down! WOOPS!

...and now a SNOW PARROT!

Remember to click on bottom R/H corner of pictures to enlarge
My eight year old granddaughter Evie decided to make a snow PARROT!

A bit different dont you think Pete?

PETE & NIKKI'SCOMMENT: Well, - that's different Trish - we thought it was hilarious, - well done Evie

Hi Pete,

Check out this snowman that myself, neighbour Nigel and son Theo put together in Greenway, Letchworth, looks like hes just warming up to sing Walking in the air, what do you think?

Cheers

Ray Cordell

PETE'S COMMENT:Absoluetly Ray - great bit of work!

He looks like he stepped right out of the Raymond Briggs Movie.

Judge for yourselves, Gentle Readers...

Pete they did not disappear They Icescaped and ran off to Snowdonia! Where they

are all having a (snow)Ball.

PETE GETS RAPPED OVER THE KNUCKLES OVER HIS GROUSE ABOUT THE DUKE!
Your entry is surely a bit misleading. If the Duke did come home and shoot Grouse I would be quite surprised. Black Grouse are pictured and the nearest must be hundreds of miles away from Sandringham. Red Grouse would have been nearer, but that story can't be true for the simple reason that the GROUSE SHOOTING SEASON HAS ENDED. He may well have shot Pheasants or Partridges, but not grouse. You do really need to be sure of your facts.
from Peter Whitcomb
Stevenage, Herts
PETE'S REPLY: Ok, you got me Pete, though I wonder if The Royals really worry about the protocol of when one is permitted to shoot grouse, pheasant, or even peasants! I actually got the basis of thefeature from The Daily Mirror, so maybe you should write to them too?

SUCCESS FOR OUR LINDSAY!
Hey Pete,
Hope Santa treated you kindly this year. It was a very nice Christmas here & family made it just even better.
I'm also taking the time to message you because you are one of a handful of people who seemed to originally care about Lindsay & her music.
It's been sort of a secret until a few days ago but we are excited to let you know that she has signed an agreement with EMI/Virgin/Capitol Records as a Finalist in their MOArtist Competition. She's really grateful and considers it a Christmas gift!
They've chosen 30 finalists over 3 cycles of competition and are trying to decide who will be amongst other prizes the opening act for some international artists. This could be Lindsay.
We are yet to absorb that she's a finalist and they are asking of people to help them pick a grand prize winner by texting LAM (which is her keyword) to 79999 (free on most mobile devices if you have unlimited text messaging)
The producer of her song Hold On is working feverishly to do a remix which will exclusively be posted on her MOA Profile as soon as it's ready!
We are also working hard this week to have her own www up to snuff & pretty looking lol
If you'd like to check out her profile there, I'll leave you with this link: http://www.moartist.com/LAM
Wishing you a huge 2012!
Kathy & Family
Canada
PETE & NIKKI'S COMMENT: Thanks Kathy. We have been following Lindsay's amazing rise on this very website since the beginning of her career, and we are huge fans of hers.
GOOD LUCK WITH THE CONTEST LINDSAY!

IN PRAISE OF MAPLINS STAFF

Hi Pete & Nikki, I was interested in your piece regarding customer service at Maplins ( Stevenage ). About 18 months ago I had difficulty in obtaining an electrical component. (I cant remember what exactly) Anyhow, after cruising around other outlets I went, (with not much hope) to Maplins.

The young man there was not only pleasant, but knowledgable enough to sort out the problem and supply the component.

As I remember it, I wrote to head office in this region to praise the work of the lad and to commend his customer service I hope he was contacted about my letter and hoped he benefited by his work.

All the very best to you both this Christmas,

from Dave & Pam Strutt

COMPLIMENTS TO DON AND ENDEVER

Re: The Three Bells.

This is really really good Pete, great harmonies, Merry Christmas to yourself & Nikki, and the very best for 2012,

cheers

PETE'S COMMENT: Hey, Ray - and Don. You are both great at what you do. Why don't the pair of you get together?

A CRIMBO PREZZY FROM DON MAXWELL
Hi Pete & Nikki
Prezzy for you at Christmas
Must say I am surprised at the quality of the arrangement considering this was 45 years ago. Unfortunately sound is not so good.
I was singing in the band Endevers soon to become Rainbow 64/74 (not Richie's lot, unfortunately)before I formed Canned Rock
Recording was a reel to reel recorder left to run at the side of the stage. Hopefully it will bring a tear to the other eye
We did a few accapela tracks at this time and it makes me very feel proud of the standard of harmony's that we achieved in the 60's, without the help of you tube.
I have also added my own Xmas song to you and yours.
You have done a great job over the years and I wish you both all the best for the new year and indeed years to come.
Your good friend and admirer
DON MAX (Maxwell Hammer & Smith)
PETE'S COMMENT: Thanks Don. Much appreciated. You can listen to Don's accapela version of 'The Three Bells' by visiting our 'Sound On!' page by

FROZEN PLANET/NIKKI & PETE'S INDIAN SUMMER WARNING
We sent out a notice to all our regular users regarding the upcoming episode of 'Frozen Planet' that deals with Climate Change, together with a link to our own YouTube series 'Nikki & Pete's Indian Summer Warning'. Here is a resposnse to that...
Hi Pete
I believe they are not showing this episode in the US?
Martin Small
Letchworth
PETE'S REPLY: I have also been told that they will not be showing it in The USA, and several other countries. This is because these countries economies are so dependent upon oil, the petro-chemicaland motor industries, that they will not face up to the truth of global warming, and the need to cut down on CO2 emissions. It's sad really!
Even the BBC (and David Attenborough) are not allowed to blame Climate Change onMankind, for fear of being accused of being politically biassed!
Watch it tonight (7th December at 9pm on BBC1), and you'll see what I mean...

Response toTHE "BIG BROTHER SOCIETY"
Dear Pete & Nikki
I wholeheartedly agree with Ryan and Nigel Harvey regards George Orwell's 1984 BIG BROTHER and the totalitarianstate run by the behind the scenes civil servants and themen in black.
David Cameron speaks of The Big Society but he left out "Brother" a coalition government that cannot function full of the oldboysEstonianclub who have no idea what it is likefor the working classe! I hate to sound brutal butif this government is so intent to upset and put the sick and the ill through fear andterror, then why do they not do what the Nazis did to the Jews and 'CULL' the sick and the ill in our society, then be done with it, then all their problems would be resolvedandthere would then be more money in the kitty for thefat cats,

RESPONSES TO 'NIKKI RATTLES McPARTLAND'S CAGE'

Dear Pete and Nikki,

Thanks for sharing this. I'm sorry your MP feels so inconvenienced by his voters choosing to email him with questions!

His points about the reasons for withholding the NHS risk register simply restate the government's old arguments as set out in the Information Commissioner's ruling arguments which the Information Commissioner goes on to reject in ruling the government has breached the law and should publish the document.

Mr McPartland may not like the Information Commissioner's ruling, or 38 Degrees highlighting it, but the fact remains that the Information Commissioner said "there is a very strong public interest in disclosure of the information" and has ordered the government to release it (though they still have not done so). You can read the full ruling here:http://t.co/h3mfnl0NOur original communication also included a link to the Information Commissioner's ruling, something Mr McPartland does not do for all his claims that we have misrepresented it.

I think you would have every right to complain about Mr McPartland's stated intention to ignore future contact from you. Most 38 Degrees members believe that they have every right to write to their MPs asking for their concerns to be addressed, and every right to expect the MP to respond saying where they stand. It doesn't seem to be particularly relevant whether this is done through a particular website, by post or by e-mail the point is you are a voter, and he is your elected representative.

Here are two suggestions of things you can do:

  • Ring his office to complain, and ask for a meeting with him in your constituency to discuss this. If you have a meeting arranged, if you like it would be possible for us to e-mail other 38 Degrees members in the area and invite them to come along with you we can make a bit of a thing of it. Someone from the 38 Degrees office could come along too if you like. The numbers we have for Mr McPartland's office are01438 728139and020 7219 7156.

  • Write a letter to the local paper highlighting their plan to ignore local voters. From their website it looks like the contact form for The Comet is here:http://www.thecomet.net/contact-us/contact-us, and they can be called on 01438 866000.

Although this is really pretty terrible behaviour from your MP, it does also suggest that your pressure is getting to him keep it up!

All best wishes,

David & the 38 Degrees team

* * * * * * *

Hi Pete.
Joanie & I gotthe exact same reply.
It seems that Mr McPartland in common with the rest of his party has forgotten that he isthe elected representative of his constituents& as such has a responsibility to take their concerns seriously.
A catch all reply like this is all we can expect from someone who is probably getting a bit tired of being told in no uncertain terms that his party & its policiesare becoming increasingly unpopular; it must be all the more frustrating as this is his first time as an MP and judging by the performance of both him & his partylikely to behis last for a good long while.
Even if 38 Degreeshad beenin error on this occasion and to tell the truth I find his argument questionable to say the least, stating that he will no long respond to email's generated by them shows that he has little regard for the concerns of his constituents & the people of this country as a whole.
As you know 38 Degrees raises public awareness on many social, health & environmental issues & provides a valuable opportunity for people who otherwise may not know how to make their voices heard & their opinions known; to suggest that he will ignore these voices & opinions is to suggest that he will ignore all concerns raised in the future about health, financial, environmental, justice, policing& a plethora of other issueswhich 38 Degrees have in the past& could in the future assist the peoplein making their feelings known.
Perhaps he should give some thought to who he actually works for:-
The Conservative party? No he is a paying (or should be) member of a political party.
The government? No he is merely an elected member of it & as such owes his position to the people.
Now then how about them? THE PEOPLE....The government is after all paid for out of OUR taxes&is in essence the lynch pin of the civil service they are ALL public employees so let's follow that track shall we? Steven McPartland was chosen by the conservative party as their representative for Stevenage and was by some hideous twist of fate elected as our MP his income is paid by OUR TAXES, his no doubt spotlessly perfect & entirely legal expenses are paid for by OUR TAXES in my book that makes him OUR employee and as such needs to pay attention to US or he will without doubt go down the same path as any unruly employee & find himself out of a job (although I doubt civil service redundancies will touch him will they?).
I had thought to email him again giving him my thoughts about his letter but as it appears he pays noattention to email's he disagrees with the content of I have decided against it; instead I will email a copy to the secretary of the local Labour party I'm sure they will be interested & while I'm at it I think I'll email the secretary of the local Conservative part too I would love to hear their opinion of responsible public representation by "The McPartland Method" & just to get the full picture I guess I should send one to the secretary of the Liberal Democrats after all even if we are not getting full & un-biasedopportunity to have our sayit's only fair that they should.
If anyone cares to join me in my quest for information regarding the various parties opinions on this letter these are the best methods of contact I have so far found
Stevenage Conservative Associationdilandgraham@AOL.com'
Stevenage Labour Party can be contacted here:- http://www.stevenagelabour.com/contact
The best place I have so far found to contact the Liberal Democrats for Steveange is here:- http://www.stevenageliberaldemocrats.org.uk/residents-survey/

All the best.

Comment on BIG BROTHER IS HERE -NOW!

I have read George Orwell's 1984 and i have to say,, i strongly agree with you both,, we don't live in a free state. We live in a state controlled by the people behind the scenes who don't reveal themselves because they seem to enjoy watching us waiting for us to do wrong... then when it happens they send other people they control after us... to be honest i don't see that as free!

Ryan Harvey, Stevenage, Herts.

 * * * * * * *

Big brother is always watching us George Orwell wasn't that far out with 1984 and to think they said we don't live in a police state. I beg to differ. We are monitered all the time - they know where we are and what we do . Free state - I don't think so"

DEB'S INSECT CHALLENGE

I'm not an expert by any stretch of the imagination but I believe the butterfly is a Comma polygonia c-album.
The fly in the second picture I think is a type of hoverfly, syrphidae eupeodes corollae.
No idea about the other two I'm afraid.  I can't get enough detail from the pictures at the angle they are caught at.
All the best.

We were pleased to get this letter from TOM MASSEY (The Frank he refers to is FRANK MURPHY who helped Pete launch Phase two of Switchboard)...

Hyah Frank & Pete,

It's my privilege to be invited to join The Magic Oak Tree Family.

I hope that we can get together sometime in the near future.

And..

When we have enough decent people, families & groups with the same will and constructive objectives we will turn the tide of greed, corruption and disrespect

that is swamping our world once we've formed The World Social Party or..

The World Peace Party.. or, what we all decide to call it ?

But, first we need to be given a prison that we all agree is run the way it should

be run so, that we can put our life's work to the ultimate test..

All The Best,

Looking Forward To Meeting You..
