THOU SHALT NOT KILL

(in ANY Faith!)

All religions state that Killing is Evil.

Most of our readers will know that in the Holy Bible, the Ten Commandments states: 'THOU SHALT NOT KILL', but how many of you know what The Holy Quran states?

Here, to help all to understand, is a few quotes: 

Human Beings Should Respect the Sanctity of Other Human Beings

Allah says, because the son of Adam killed his brother in transgression and aggression,

 Note that in both The Holy Bible and The Holy Quran, Adam was the first man, and his son was the first murderer, - killing his brother.

(We ordained for the Children of Israel...) meaning, We legislated for them and informed them,

(that if anyone killed a person not in retaliation of murder, or (and) to spread mischief in the land - it would be as if he killed all mankind, and if anyone saved a life, it would be as if he saved the life of all mankind.) The Ayah states, whoever kills a soul without justification -- such as in retaliation for murder or for causing mischief on earth -- will be as if he has killed all mankind, because there is no difference between one life and another.

(and if anyone saved a life...) by preventing its blood from being shed and believing in its sanctity, then all people will have been saved from him, so,

(it would be as if he saved the life of all mankind.) Al-A`mash and others said that Abu Salih said that Abu Hurayrah said, "I entered on `Uthman when he was under siege in his house and said, `I came to give you my support. Now, it is good to fight (defending you) O Leader of the Faithful!' He said, `O Abu Hurayrah! Does it please you that you kill all people, including me' I said, `No.' He said, `If you kill one man, it is as if you killed all people. Therefore, go back with my permission for you to leave. May you receive your reward and be saved from burden.' So I went back and did not fight.''' `Ali bin Abi Talhah reported that Ibn `Abbas said, "It is as Allah has stated...

THE TRUTH ABOUT WAR

The uncomfortable truth is that, in a war situation, there are NO 'Good Guys' and 'Bad Guys', because they are ALL bad guys, - otherwise they wouldn't be killing each other!

Make no mistake, - torture and humiliation of prisoners is just as rife in The European and US Military as it is anywhere else, and so is the slaughter of civilians!

Witness The bombing of Berlin and Dresden, Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Vietnam and Iraq ... in each case, innocent civilians were killed and maimed, - and this, they call 'The Glory of War!'

We don't believe there is any glory in setting a young girl alight with Napalm Bombs, as the Americans did to Kim Phuc (Pictured left) on 8th June 1972, during the Vietnam War, - especially when napalm Bombs were supoposed to have been made illegal at the time!

There are many reasons for war, but it all comes down to greed:

1. Disputes over land

2.Disputes over religion

3. Disputes over culture

4.Disputes over possessions

5.Disputes over 'strength' and 'weakness'

6. Disputes over Power

Unfortunately, we are all preconditioned to 'own' things, and to challenge others in order to prove ourselves and get what we want...

Sport is all about challenging your opponents.

This is most obvious in Boxing and wrestling, where opponents actually physically assault each other in the name of entertainment - hardly any better than The Romans pitting Christians against Gladiators, - but it goes back much further than that....

In prehistoric times, males fought over females (and still do!) - in the same way that stags fight over hinds in the wild.

Tribes fought over territories, much the same way that cats and other animals do.

Unfortunately, we haven't progressed from those days.

The only difference is that, instead of using fists and stones, we now use guns and nuclear missiles!

We are actually encouraged to take part in, and to support competitive sports like football and rugby, which is, in fact, a re-enactment of war in a contained area, where supporters of each army (The Fans) vehemently cheer on one side or the other, - and very often, - the aggressive competitiveness of the game spills out amongst the fans, and you get football hooliganism. 

To be honest, we cannot understand why Boxing is known as 'The Noble Sport' and Football is known as 'The Glorious Game' - when, in fact, both are simply a way of letting off latent agression.

THE PROBLEM HERE IS THAT, BECAUSE THE POWERS THAT BE NEVER LET WE, THE PUBLIC, KNOW THE TRUTH BEHIND THESE SORDID LITTLE SCHEMES, WHEN PEOPLE, LIKE US, SPEAK OUT, - YOU ARE TOLD THAT WE ARE SPREADING 'CONSPIRACY THEORIES'...

BUT WHO COULD FORGET THE WEAPONS OF MASS DESTRUCTION (OR WEAPONS OF MASS DISTRACTION AS WE CALLED IT AT THE TIME!) THAT WERE COMPLETELY MADE UP BY MESSRS BLAIR AND BUSH AS AN EXCUSE FOR GETTING RID OF SADDAM HUSSIEN?

ISN'T IT ABOUT TIME WE STOPPED PLAYING AGRESSIVE GAMES, STOPPED BEING SO COMPETITIVE, AND START TO BUILD A WORLD BASED ON LOVE AND TRUST, RATHER THAN AGRESSION AND DISTRUST, - AND BRING PEACE TO THE PLANET?

 UNLESS WE, AS INDIVIDUALS LEARN TO GET ALONG TOGETHER WITHOUT FIGHTING IN THE NAME OF GREED, PRIDE, POSSESSION AND NATIONAL PRIDE, WE WILL NEVER PUT AN END TO WAR, BECAUSE INDIVIDUAL ANGER MANIFESTS ITSELF INTO NATIONAL, AND EVENTUALLY, INTERNATIONAL WARFARE...

PETE: I was brought into this world at the beginning of World War ll, - so I know what I am talking about.

Sitting in the Anderson shelter with my mum and two sisters listening to the dogfights overhead and the bombs dropping around us, even as a five-to-six-year-old, I wondered why people had to be so aggressive to each other. Almost every day, the headmaster, at morning assembly, would read out the names of school friends that had been killed the night before in air raids.

At the age of 17, one of my closest friends, JONNY HARTNELL, (pictured left) a promising ballet dancer, was killed in a car accident on his way to the opening of a ballet school in Leytonstone, East London, which he was to have been co-opening with fellow schoolfriend Doreen Wells, who went on to become Prima ballerina for The Royal Ballet, and subsequently The Marchioness of Londonderry.

At the age of 24, my close friend and Filmart Studios colleague DEREK SOALL (see picture right) died whilst being operated upon for a strangulated hernia.

THESE ARE MEMORIES THAT WILL LIVE WITH ME FOREVER, and since then, I have tried to avoid allowing arguments to get out of control.

Whatever the rights or wrongs in the eyes of the individual, I have tried to tuck my pride in my pocket and keep a positive attitude towards those that I have disagreed with, however badly they may have seemed to treat me or the ones who are dear to me.

Way back in the early Sixties, my father (see picture left with my mother) fell out with me on what I regarded as a minor difference of opinion. He wouldn't even talk to me when I visited my mother, - however much I tried, - he would simply walk away as if I was not there.

In 1963, I got a message via a workmate of his, telling me that dad had suffered a massive heart attack, and was in hospital. Immediately, I went to his side at the hospital bed, where my mother was sitting with him.

Before I went, I kissed him on the forehead and said 'Goodbye Dad. I love you'.

THAT NIGHT HE DIED.

Four years later, in 1967, my wife Dorothy (pictured right) died of a subarachnoid haemmorrhage, and, although I was devastated, I was happy that we parted whilst we were both so very much in love.

Can you imagine how I had felt if we'd had an argument before she was taken from me so tragically?

In 1988, my old friend and colleague JON RIDLEY suddenly became posessed with drink and drugs whilst we were seeing in the New Year of 1989 together. Without warning, he suddenly attacked me, trying to strangle me.

Many people told me I should never have anything more to do with him, but, after getting a letter from him, posted through our door by his then-wife Jill, I went round to his house to find him crying over what he had done.

'Can you ever forgive me Pete?' He pleaded.

'Jon', I told him, 'There's nothing I could do to you as punishment that you are not already doing to yourself...'

We remained friends until he died earlier this year.

SO WHATEVER YOU DO, WE PLEAD WITH YOU ALL TO SETTLE ANY PETTY LITTLE QUARRELS YOU MAY HAVE GOING ON WITH THOSE CLOSE TO YOU, - BECAUSE YOU WON'T BE ABLE TO MAKE UP FOR IT AFTER EITHER OF YOU ARE DEAD!

REMEMBER, PEACE IS NOT ONLY FOR CHRISTMAS - IT IS FOREVER.

Pete's preference for the white poppy of peace over the usual red one was given credence in the Stevenage & District COMET newspaper...

... and there was support the following week, including one from an ex-United Nations worker...

Well, what a good idea? Does anyone agree with this idea?
